COLD (Computer Output to Laser Disk) technology is a cost-effective method of storing information for both high retrieval and long retention applications. It is the process of writing computer generated data out to a laser disk, utilizing either compact disk or optical disk. COLD serves as perfect compliment to microfiche for the active retrieval period of a document. Microfiche is still recommended as the archival media.
